How the Regents Built: A Two-Day Course
at the
Regency Town House

This course/seminar will take place on the

It will encompass the highly significant historical period from the 1780s to the 1830s—an era that marked a seminal moment in the architectural history of our country. This was a complex period of development, with many new materials becoming available, yet still shaped by significant transport restrictions. It is, therefore, a particularly intriguing time to explore.

Two days is the minimum required to fully engage with the subject. This course will not focus on the well-known figures of the time—such as architects, patrons, or royalty. Instead, we will delve into the world of contractors and skilled craftsmen of the period. These individuals were often trained through traditional means, with knowledge passed from father to son and through formal indentured apprenticeships.
It was a world without modern health and safety regulations, where common sense was expected to prevail.
We will examine how such rapid construction was achieved, the availability of materials, and much more, including how fashions and wealth influenced development.
